Held in Catania from 2nd until 3rd March, at the Le Ciminiere exhibition centre, this is the third edition of the Innovation and High Technology Exchange (BIAT). It is an initiative created by ICE – an Agency within the scope of the Export South Plan, in collaboration with the Convergence Regions (Calabria, Campania, Puglia, Sicilia). This international event with its itinerant character, seeks to maximize the innovation potential shown by the business and research systems of the regions of southern Italy, in order to turn it into products and services to be placed on foreign markets.
In particular, the BIAT promotes the commercialisation and transfer of innovative products and services, or high technology and intangibles (patents in particular), through matchmaking be it through commercial and technological supply and demand, or between startups, SMEs, enterprise networks, universities, technological parks and foreign counterparts.
Proposals must cover the following areas: nanotechnology, biotechnology, new materials, aerospace, mechatronics, renewable energies, environment, ICT and technology for smart communities.
The foreign counterparts will be big businesses, research centres interested in technology transfer, venture capitalists and investors, identified by the international network of ICE Agency offices, operating in the following countries: Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, France, Germany, Japan, Korea, India, Israel, Poland, Qatar, Russian Federation, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United States.
The event is divided into 4 phases:
· collection of projects for commercial and industrial application by companies in the 4 Convergence Regions (expired on 23rd September 2016);
. validation of projects for promotion in 18 identified foreign countries, to ensure non-disclosure of sensitive information to protect innovative ideas;
· identification of foreign counterparts through an online matchmaking mechanism that will allow foreign operators to consult the projects’ summaries and select those of interest;
· creation of meetings between Italian and foreign counterparts during the Market.
At the opening of the conference, after the institutional plenary, seminar sessions will be held, dedicated to the protection of intellectual property, to incentives for taking out patents and to forms of funding specifically for innovation, in particular for start-ups.
