ZCube, the research venture of the Zambon pharmaceutical group, is announcing the start of the second run of the Open Accelerator acceleration programme, dedicated exclusively to the ideas in the life sciences field, which are worthy of being guided and supported during their birth and early growth. This is an invitation to researchers, Scientists and aspiring Italian and international entrepreneurs. Participants will follow a 12 stage path that will lead to projects being selected which are considered worthy of receiving the very first seed investment, up to a maximum of 100 thousand euro project.
The request for ideas will be open until 16th July 2017 and concerns 4 macro areas of interest: Drug delivery systems (innovative technologies for drug delivery, and controlled and targeted release within the body); Open source prototyping: medical devices, biomarkers, diagnostics (innovative technology platforms for prevention and diagnosis, such as professional diagnostic devices and advanced biometric applications); Wearables and digital health (wearable devices that improve the quality of life of patients and technological solutions aimed at improving health services); Big data (analysis and use of data that allows for a reduction in health care costs through more effective diagnosis).
A maximum of 30 worthy projects will participate in the acceleration programme that involves a training plan where young researchers will be supported by mentors and advisors including entrepreneurs, business angels, venture capitalists and experts from major companies in the four segments of the area of interest. ZCube will be supported in the partnership by Iab-Italian Angels for Biotech, the first business angel association exclusively dedicated to life sciences, and Innogest, one of the leading venture capital companies that operates both in Italy and in Europe. Experts from IAB and Innogest, along with other international experts, will take the roles of mentors and advisors on the acceleration path to guide the startups towards a concrete business plan and develop their market access strategy. At the end of the programme the most innovative ideas could receive seed investment of up to 100 EUR thousand, an important platform from which they could face the market.
