Eurostars 2 is restarting, the European funding programme aimed at promoting transnational research and development. Eurostars 2 is managed by the EUREKA Secretariat of the European Commission and finances activities aimed at:
- promoting transnational research activities targeted at all sectors of the market, small and medium-sized enterprises that carry out research, especially those without previous experience in transnational research who have introduced new or improved processes and services to the market;
- contributing to the creation of the European Research Area (TO BE) and improving accessibility, the efficiency and effectiveness of public funding in favor of SMEs in Europe, aligning, harmonising and synchronizing national funding mechanisms.
To date there are twenty-seven member countries of EUREKA, including Italy. They have supported the programme by providing human and financial resources. These countries have also committed to providing the financial resources necessary to fund common R&D projects.
The European Commission has made a total contribution of 287 million Euros over 7 years (2014-2020) available to Eurostars 2, for which there will be a corresponding financial commitment from the Member States equivalent to almost 3 times this figure.
Eurostars has launched a single tender which provides two annual deadlines, known as COD7 and COD8: the Ministry of Education participates in the CoD 7, with a deadline of 2nd March 2017, and a budget amounting to 500,000 euro, while participation in the CoD 8, ending on 14th September 2017, will be decided shortly, depending on the availability of funds.
