The presentation of the third report entitled “The bioeconomy in Europe”, is scheduled for March 24th in Naples. This is a survey which has been carried out by Assobiotec in partnership with Intesa Sanpaolo Research Centre since 2014. The report this year will have as its focus “The bio-economy as a key to regional development: the case of Campania”.
The bio-economy is an economy which uses biological resources from land and sea, as well as waste, as input for energy, industrial, food, and animal feed production. It also refers to the use of processes based on biological resources for a sustainable industry.
Today in Europe the value of the bio-economy is estimated at 2000 EUR billion, employing more than 22 million people (9% of the total). This includes agriculture, forestry, fishery, food production, pulp and paper production, as well as the chemical industry, biotechnology and energy. For every euro invested in research and innovation in the bio-economy in 2012, it is estimated that the EU can generate an added value of 10 euro by 2025.
The launch will be an opportunity to discuss the bio-economy as a factor of local development, starting with Campania’s case.
