From the 22nd March until 2nd July, the Virtual Man: physics explores the body exhibition is open in Pisa’s Blue Palace. The exhibition is dedicated to the impact physics has had in the birth of the latest technologies, it is indispensable for cures, therapy and diagnosis in the medical field, and has allowed virtual eyes to scrutinise the human body, changing medicine forever. The human body has been explored for treatment, gravitating towards the dream of a virtual man able to win battles against time. Wandering through the exhibition touches on almost every area of application within the medical device industry: from imaging we move on to hadron therapy, from big data to neuroscience, from bionics to personalised medicine.
Curated by INFN – National Institute of Nuclear Physics, promoted by Fondazione Palazzo Blu and produced with the collaboration of Assobiomedica, the exhibition is a real immersive path for the visitor, which covers a surface area of 800 sq.m. on two floors of Palazzo Blu. The exhibition, developed in collaboration with experienced interactive design and video-art artists , is characterised by its immersivity and use of multimedia. The aesthetic fascination of multimedia and art installations, the involvement and experience of interactive games take the visitor by the hand to learn about great discoveries of modern physics and their impact in the birth of the most innovative technologies, indispensable for the treatment and diagnosis of human health.
The journey is in stages marked by the invention of ever more sophisticated and precise technologies: computed tomography, MRI, large particle accelerators, artificial prosthesis, 4D Ultrasound, right up to molecular biology tests, technologies which are now essential for the protection of our health, however they continue too often to be poorly understood and perceived as cold and hardly reassuring for people. Through this route, on the contrary, they can be rediscovered in a new light.
