Role of nutraceutical supplementation with antioxidants in women candidates for medically assisted procreation techniques.
Description: GENADIS-D is a project aimed at developing a nutraceutical in the female and male infertility sector with a view to its industrialization by Merck Serono.
There are currently no therapeutic strategies that improve success rates in infertile women of advanced reproductive age. Some of the hypotheses consider a deficit in the androgen production of the ovary or the appearance of a mitochondrial dysfunction at the origin of reproductive senescence in women. In this context, The use of D-Aspartic acid and melatonin seems particularly promising as it exerts an effect in preserving the integrity of granulosa cells from damage induced by oxidative stress.
The data available in the literature suggest, Therefore, such as the supplementation of these compounds, combined with coenzyme Q, may produce a positive effect in older women undergoing PMA techniques.
The project consists of confirming these scientific assumptions through in vitro and in vivo studies of the D-aspartic acid association, melatonin, coenzyme Q which will be conducted mainly by the university partner. The formulation study will allow us to identify the best mixture. The formulated product will be developed by Merck Serono up to pilot scale.
The final objective is the development of a nutraceutical in the field of female and male infertility with a view to its launch on the market by Merck Serono. The DMSC of the Magna Graecia University participate in the project with the aim of evaluating the impact of the administration of the nutraceutical proposed by Merck Serono both in terms of direct effects on gametic quality, both in terms of improvements in the reproductive chances of couples treated with PMA cycles. The study and classification of such data, through bioinformatics analysis and integration tools, will be performed by Biotecnomed.
