ICaRe – Calabrian Infrastructure for regenerative medicine: generation of bio-banks for the cryopreservation of human stem cells and bone tissue for clinical use and design and development of innovative bioscaffold

The ICARE Project, financed with funds PON Rec 2007-2013, It aimed at the study of stem cells for clinical use in regenerative medicine, the study of the characteristics of the cell CB banking and features implemented in the development of technologically advanced biobanks and scaffolds. The innovative potential resides in the technological approach used for the preparation of stem cell lines of different nature and in the choice of the source tissue from which such cells are derived and cryopreserved.

Main results:

  • Optimized protocols of isolated human mesenchymal stem cells from bone marrow, adipose tissue, umbilical cord and placenta
  • Methods for the manipulation of ex-vivo MSC based on the modulation of regulatory genes, aimed at achieving the expansion and differentiation of the MSCs into specific cell lineage
  • Optimized protocols of isolated human mesenchymal stem cells from dental pulp and oral tissue
  • Storage area and CB banking of bone tissue with innovative management mode
  • Creation of a biobank of human induced pluripotent stem cells to study disease models, biological testing of new drugs and predictive toxicology
  • Bank of cardiac stem cells allogeneic genetically modified to produce growth factors,anti-miR and miR cardiopoietici innovative Scaffolds applied to regenerative medicine
